LEGISLATURE TO VOTE NO!
What's at Stake?
If passed, the bill which levies a $10.64 tax on every prescription would have a detrimental impact on both employers and employees throughout Alabama, significantly driving up the cost of healthcare benefits, and burdening employees with higher prescription costs. Our research tells us that this would be one of the largest tax increases on businesses in our state's history.
While we stand with the pharmacy community in addressing the reimbursement issues they face when filling certain prescriptions, we firmly believe that imposing a new tax on businesses is not the solution. This proposed tax would place an additional financial strain on employers, forcing them to absorb the increased costs or pass them on to employees through higher premiums or out-of-pocket expenses.
Small businesses, in particular, which already operate under tight margins, would be disproportionately impacted. The ripple effect from this tax would extend throughout the entire state, increasing the cost of healthcare benefits for employees and making it more difficult for businesses to offer affordable coverage.
RUN THE NUMBERS
Understand your business’s financial risk by asking your HR or benefit manager how many prescriptions your company filled last year and multiply that by 10.64. That is how much this new tax will cost you each year!
